Extra Curricular 2015/16

Well done to our Dodgeball and Rounders Teams
On Tuesday 24th May our Rounders team took part in a large tournament at St.Gabriel's High School. In the first game they were well beaten by Chesham. This was partly due to not being used to the different style of bats an balls being used. We use flat bats in school and round bats were used at the tournament. The team practised with the new equipment between games and grew in confidence. As a result they played much better and won their second game against Higher Lane 4 1/2 to 2 1/2. The fielding and batting were much better and they were quick to stump the opposition out.

Springside Rounders Team 2016

On Wednesday 25th May our Dodgeball team competed in a competition at Woodhey. It is the first time that Springside have entered a team in this sport. They did particularly well and reached the semi-finals. They were finally beaten in a very hard fought game against St.Mary's.
In fact the team that eventually won the competition had been beaten by Springside in an earlier round. Well done team!

Champions Again!
Well done to the rugby team for winning the second BJSSA rugby tournament of the year. 7 schools competed and the standard of rugby was very high. They won two and lost one game in the group stages before progressing to the semi-finals. In the semi-final they played in a very exciting game against Holcombe Brook. It finished 2-2 and then went to 'golden point'. After a tense passage of play Springside scored the winning try and qualified for the final. They were up against St.Josephs and St.Bede's again. In another close match Springside  triumphed to retain the trophy. Every member of the team worked hard together and supported each other. Well done team, we are proud of you. There will be one more tournament this year. Can Springside win a hat-trick of tournaments?

More Success for our Lacrosse Team
Springside's lacrosse team competed in the Greater Manchester Games on the 15th March. The team all joined in with the singing and dancing during the fantastic opening ceremony at Sports City before travelling to the Armitage centre to compete against the top school teams in Greater Manchester. They did even better than last year when they finished 4th in their league of 8 and qualified for the main competition. Unfortunately, they were beaten in the quarter finals by a very strong team from Wardle. However, they gave a very good account of themselves and played some fantastic lacrosse.

Young Voices

Last week some children from Key Stage 2 were lucky enough to sing with the world's largest choir! 8000 children took part in the singing event at the Manchester Arena on 3rd March. Springside did an outstanding performance - including songs such as The Lightning Tree, Pop Medley, a selection of Gospel songs and songs from Madness. The event marked the 20th Anniversary of the event and we were joined by the celebrity Alexandra Burke! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - Well done Springside Choir!

Congratulations to our Lacrosse Team

Well done to our Lacrosse team who have qualified for the second year running to represent Bury in the Manchester Winter Games. They finished second in the qualifying competition after winning three of their games. They will now accompany Summerseat on the 15th March to the opening ceremony at Sports City, followed by a competition against teams from all the other Greater Manchester boroughs at the Manchester University Sports Halls. We wish them a successful competition.

Our lacrosse team that are now representing Bury as well.

Well done to the basketball team. They finished second in a tournament at the Derby High School on 14th January. Unfortunately, they played the strongest team first in their first game before they fully understood some of the competition rules. They were only narrowly beaten and then went on to win all their remaining games.

Rugby Champions
We are proud to have won the BJSSA Tag Rugby tournament that was held at Springside on Thursday 22nd October. The team won all  5 of the games they played, beating a very strong St.Joseph's and St. Bede's team in the final. The children did the school proud and all worked together to achieve this fantastic feat. There will be two further tournaments later in the year when they will have the chance to defend their title.
Well done to all of them!

The winning team.
