Football 5-a-side Tournament

On Wednesday the 1st July Springside took 3 teams down to the football finals at Buckley Wells Playing Fields at Bury Grammar School. By reaching the tournament the girls became one of the top 5 football teams in Bury. They managed 2 draws on the night, in very tough, sticky conditions, and all took home a medal for doing so well.
The Boys' Tournament was a straight knockout Cup. One of our teams fell at the first hurdle, losing in extra time to St. John and St. Marks, but can take solace in the fact nearly all of them can try again next year.
For the other team, comprised of all Year 6 boys, it was the last chance to win the prestigious Councillor Edward Green Trophy. The Cup dates back to 1971. In the first match Springside beat Greenhill 2-0. In the quarter finals, they beat the previous holders of the Cup, BGS A, 1-0. The semi-final against Holcombe Brook went the same way. A tense final awaited following a penalty shoot out between our Walmersley rivals, Chesham, and BGS B. BGS B won the penalty shoot out and contested a great final... which Springside won!
Congratulations to all our teams for even reaching the Finals, and a massive thank you to all those who have represented school so well across the year!
Pictures to follow!

Mad Science

Springside's Mini-Mad Scientists have been working really hard. They have been learning about heat, digestion, static electricity and lots more. Each week they get to take home a special item which is either a gift or something they have made in the lesson. Last week they all got to eat some candy floss, it was yummy. Electric Emily tells us lots of great science facts and she makes science really interesting and fun.
