Each half term we do an unaided writing task. Teachers mark and level this using the assessment criteria and record it in the same way as for maths.
      /  partially achieved     X  achieved

 /  partially achieved become targets.

Within the system, there are writing prompt sheets which we find very helpful to the children. They provide a template to help structure the particular writing genre and also give examples of vocabulary to include.

Each text type also has an example, written on the template, showing the children how they can ‘put the meat on the bones’ to write an effective story, containing all of the correct features.
