Big Maths – Weekly basic skills:

• Children grouped according to current level. 
• Each test has the same format, with similar questions in the same order, so it builds children’s confidence and can lead to rapid progress.
• Children spend up to 30 mins completing test - with input from teacher/HLTA if required – so test conditions are not necessary … the emphasis is on learning.
• Mark together, then use RAG cards to show if their answers were right or wrong.
• If teacher sees one or two reds, involve the ‘green’ children in explaining their strategies to the set.
• If there are several ‘reds’ teach that skill. This means that teaching is tightly focused on the areas causing difficulty.
• Focused teaching has an immediate impact on the following test. THEY LOVE IT!
